Carrie Marie Sloan, 94
Carrie Marie Sloan, age 94 of Nashville, Tennessee and formerly of Lafayette, Tennessee, died on January 21, 2010 at Alive Hospice at St. Thomas Hospital. Funeral services for Carrie Marie Sloan were conducted Saturday, at 11 a.m. from the Eulia General Baptist Church with Reverend Wayne Keen officiating. Joseph Gordon, Eric Criswell, Jeff Sloan, Jason Sloan, Jerry Stone, and Ricky Price served as pallbearers. Interment followed in the Green Grove Cemetery. She was born on December 1, 1915 in Macon County, Tennessee, to her parents; the late Dennis Wesley and Mirtie Alice Meador Stone.
Carrie was married to Johnnie Lee Sloan in 1942, sharing forty-nine years together and raising two children, Johnnie preceded her in death on September 21, 1991. Besides her husband and parents; sister, Lera Doss, and brother, Edwin Stone, also preceded her in death.
She was a school teacher for the Macon County Broad of Education for seventeen years, before retiring in 1998. Carrie loved spending time with her family, camping and taking trips. She liked gardening and was also a good seamstress. Carrie was a very caring person who enjoyed taking care of other people and driving the neighbors to doctor appointments. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Associations and a member of the Eulia General Baptist Church. Carrie will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Carrie is lovingly survived by; daughter, Edna and husband Charles Smith of Nashville, TN, son, Billy and wife Wanda Sloan of Gallatin, TN, sister, Olene Blackburn of Jasper, TN, brother-in-law, Forrest A. Doss of Clinton, TN, grandchildren, Jason Sloan of Lafayette, TN, Jeff and wife Tina Sloan of Gallatin, TN, Sloan and husband Eric Criswell of Nashville TN, Shannon and husband Joseph Gordon of Nashville, TN, great-grandchildren, Jessica Fuller of Gallatin, TN, Jenna Sloan of Gallatin, TN, Johnny Lee Sloan of Lafayette, TN, Andrew Wesley Criswel, Sarah Ellen Criswell, and Samuel Smith Gordon all of Nashville, TN.
