Denver Colwell, 82

Denver Colwell, age 82, of Lafayette, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, January 17th, at his residence.  Funeral services for Denver Colwell were conducted on Friday at 1:00 p.m. from the Cathedral Appraise Church of God in Columbus, Indiana with Reverend Bob Vance and Reverend Alex McIntosh officiating.  Interment followed in the Garland Brook Cemetery in Columbus, Indiana. Denver was born on November 4, 1927 in Perry County, Kentucky to his parents; Willie and Pairlee Colwell, who preceded him in death. As a young man, he married his first wife Martha Mae Colwell, the mother of his children; she preceded him in death. Then on March 31, 1978, he married Virginia Irene Hinds sharing thirty-one years together; she survives. Besides his first wife and parents; daughters, Rita Joy Mills, and Vonda Jill Debruhl, sisters, Verna Calwell, Edith Colwell, and Velvia Colwell, brothers, Elvin, Ezra, and Roger Colwell, and a step grandchild, James Allen Cravens, also preceded him in death.

Denver worked for Arvin’s Automotive of North America for forty years before retiring, working in tool & die for five years in Seymour, Indiana and thirty-five years in the Gladstone Plant in Indiana.  He pastored several churches in different towns such as; Franklin, Greensburg, Mitchell, Columbus, and North Vernon, Indiana. Denver and his wife had recently moved to Lafayette, Tennessee and had planned to make it their home. He was a member of the Church of God in Cleveland, TN, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Besides his loving wife, Virginia, he is survived by; sons, Christopher Denny (Ronda) Colwell of Columbus, IN, Ricky (Julie) Colwell of Winniebag, IL, and Gregory Neal (Wendy) Colwell of Havelock, NC, step-children, James Daniel (Joyce) Cravens of Lafayette, TN, Ronald Curtis (Patty) Cravens of Jamestown, TN, Gary Allen (Donna) Cravens of North Venon, IN, Lisa Marie (Harold Keith) Roberts of Lafayette, TN, Charles Manuel Lex (Jenny) Cravens of Elizabethtown, IN, brothers, Curtis (Mahaley) Colwell of Hamilton, OH, Harold (Marty) Colwell of Hot Springs, AK, sisters, Delatine (Frank) Holt of Caruthersville, IN, and Ruthine (Mickey) Ousley of Austin, IN, thirteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, nineteen step-grandchildren, eleven step-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews, also survive.
