BERNICE C. JONES, 82

BERNICE C. JONES, age 82, of the Brattontown Community of Macon County, passed away on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at the Sumner Regional Medical Center in Gallatin, TN.  Funeral services for Bernice C. Jones were held on Thursday, January 28, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. from the Chapel of the Anderson & Son Funeral Home with Elder Ricky Wilson officiating.

Joe Hackett, Joe Dickens, Roger Russell, Matthew Carman, Leland Hargis, Michael Horton, Shane Newberry, Eddie Warner, Bubba Young, Timmy Jones, and Randy Shoulders served as Pallbearers.  Interment was in the Anderson & Son Memorial Park in Lafayette.  Bernice was born on Saturday, August 27, 1927, one of six siblings born to the late Neal and Mirtle Mae (Dickens) Jones.  He married the former Velda Joyce McDonald on May 11, 1945, who survives.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Clemons Jones and a sister, Betty Duty.  He retired after his third consecutive term as Macon County Highway Road Supervisor.  Prior to being elected as Road Supervisor, he had worked under Macon County Road Supervisor’s, Edgar Cook, Harold Cothron, and Jack Goodman.  He enjoyed farming and was an avid coon hunter in his earlier years.  He left his testimony of being saved at the age of 16 and was a member of the Lafayette Missionary Baptist Church.  Besides his wife of 64 years, he is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Joyce (Noel) Sullivan of the Green Grove Community of Macon County, son and daughter-in-law, Wendell (Sandra) Jones of Decatur, TN, brothers, Lerly (Marion) Jones and Doyle Jones, all of Lafayette, TN, Dorris (Sue) Jones of Hartsville, TN., grandchildren and spouses, Priscilla (Eddie) Warner, Amy (Shane) Newberry, all of Lafayette, TN, Wade Jones of Nashville, TN, Leah Jones of Knoxville, and 4 great-grandchildren.
