Howard Khouri, Sr., 92
Howard Khouri, Sr., 92, of the Smith Bend Community passed away at his Carl Dixon Lane home Fri. morning, Feb. 5 following a long battle with cancer. A celebration of Mr. Khouri’s life was held Sun., Feb. 7 from the Hackett Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home.
Burial was in the Royal Palm Cemetery in St. Petersburg, Fla. Born Howard Mitchael Khouri in High Springs in Alachua County, Fla. on March 29, 1917, he was the son of the late Said “Sid” Arthur Khouri and the later Ethel Bessie Slappy Khouri. A brother, Richard “Dickey” Khouri preceded Mr. Khouri in death in 1968. Mr. Khouri was preceded in death on Sept. 5, 2002 by his wife, Lillian Marguarite Perry Khouri to whom he married Dec. 25, 1938. He honorably served our country with the United States Army and Coast Guard during World War II. He was a 1935 graduate of St. Petersburg High School. In 1936 he began a career woth the Florida Power Co., now New Progress Energy that would last for forty four years. He retired as Director of Community Development in 1980. Surviving Mr. Khouri is his son, Howard Khouri, Jr. and wife Carla of the Smith Bend Community; grandson, Jeffery Khouri and wife Nicole of Graveport, Ind.; great granddaughter, Laura Khouri.
