Funeral services for Jerry Lee Denton, age 72, of Oak Grove community were held here Wed., Feb. 3. Jerry Lee Denton passed away Mon., Feb. 1, 2010 at his residence. Jerry Denton was born Jan. 1, 1938 in the Pine Hill Community of Clay County to Theron and Dora (Hestand) Denton.

Jerry Denton was retired from the Corps of Engineers, a Veteran and a member of the Pine Hill Church of Christ. Jerry was preceded in death by his son Gregory Lee Denton, and father Theron Denton. Survivors include his wife Ruth Cross Denton of Oak Grove Community, Mother Dora Denton of the Pine Hill Community, sons and daughter-in-laws, Jerry Michael & Kathy Denton of Monterey, Tn. and Brian & Peggy Denton of Carthage, Tn. Brother and Sister-in-law :Clyde "Tommy" & Coretta Denton of Pine Hill. Sisters and Brothers-in-law: Sue & Carol Savage of Baxter, TN., Anna & Glyn Jackson of Celina and Janie & Charles Askew of Cookeville, Tn. 3 grandchildren, Jessica Denton, Ethan Denton and Emma Denton. Funeral Services were held at Upton Funeral Home with Dale Strong officiating. Burial was in Denton-Eads Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Butch Jackson, Chris Savage, john Denton, Bill Cherry, Don Cherry, Russell Collins, James Collins and Roy Brown. Honorary pallbearers H.G. Asberry, Michael Sweezy and Coy Collins.
