CHARLIE ALLEN CHERRY, 68

CHARLIE ALLEN CHERRY age 68 of Lafayette, Tennessee, died on February 12, 2010 at his residence.  Funeral services for Charlie Allen Cherry were conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Elder J.E. Shoulders officiating. Vin Cline, Lewis White, Gary Holland, Dean Brawner, Doug McDonald, and Earl Davis served as pallbearers. Interment followed in the Macon County Memorial Gardens.



He was born on August 23, 1941in Macon County, Tennessee, to his parents; the late Farris and Ella Cherry. On August 19, 1969, he married Donna Davis Cherry, his wife of more than forty years, who survives.  Charlie was a retired meat cutter, where he worked at Houchens and other stores, for almost twenty-three years. He worked in administration for the Macon County Highway Department and held various other jobs, including a self-employed truck driver in his earlier years. Charlie served as County Commissioner of the 18th. District for 8 years and always enjoyed serving on a number of committees. He also served on the Macon County Election Commission for ten years and served on the Board of CHEPC for several years.  Before Charlie’s health started to fail, he always enjoyed talking and trading with people. Charlie suffered with a tremendous amount of pain and fought a long, hard battle; never wanting to give up. He loved his wife, family and his two cats, Snowflake and Buttons. Besides his wife, he is survived by; sister, Mamie Stinson and nephew, Darren Stinson, both of Lafayette, TN, brother-in-law, Earl (Laura) Davis of Portland, TN, Nephew, Kevin (Christy) Davis, Ocala, FL, Nephew, Eric (Kris) Davis and great nephew, Spencer Davis, all of Minneapolis, MN. Several Aunts, one Uncle and several cousins, also survive.
