Funeral Services for Robert Dennis Sloan were conducted on Saturday, February 27, 2010 from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home with Brother Ron Ralph officiating.

Kameron Vanatta, Steve Brown, Mike Cope, Jeff Cope, Collin McDonald, and Connor McDonald served as Pallbearer. Interment following in the Pleasant Shade Cemetery with military honor. Dennis was the older of two siblings born to the late Earnest Harvey “Jake” Sloan and Betty Hackett Sloan.  In addition to his parents, a son Mickey Sloan preceded in death. He married the love of his life, the former Gladys Andrews in Pleasant Shade by Courtland Wakefield’s on July 7, 1953, who survives.  The family recalled memories of Dennis being a very gentle, meek man and he loved to joke around with people. You would find him fishing, hunting, or tinkering around fixing things for people. He was a devout Christian and enjoyed talking about the Lord. Dennis worked as a Commercial Printer at the Lebanon Democrat newspaper for 19 years.  He left there to work for the Carthage Courier Newspaper as a Printer for 17 years.  He was a member of the Upper Cumberland Presbyterian Church located in Pleasant Shade. He was a 50 year member of the Grand and Free Masons Benevolent Lodge # 14 in Carthage. Besides his wife of 56 years, he is survived by a son & daughter-in-law, Mark and Melissa Sloan of Pleasant Shade, TN, 4 grandchildren, and a sister, Ann Cope of Georgia.
