She was born in Macon County, TN. on Aug. 13, 1922 to the late Charles Herlon and Mary Alice Gregory Uhles.
Ruby was married to the love of her life Georgie Harris Gross on Dec. 5, 1942, sharing almost forty years together and raising two children; Georgie preceded her in death on Oct. 17, 1982. Besides her husband and parents; an infant son, Charles Perry Gross, sisters, Vestie Hudson, Susie Phillips, and Maebelle Jones, and a brother, Willie Uhles, also preceded her in death.
Ruby and her sister Vestie owned and operated a Dress Shop in Lafayette and she worked as a Nurses aid for Macon County General Hospital for a time, also. Ruby was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing and made several quilts and Barbie doll clothes for her children and grandchildren, until her eyes started to fail her. She loved to cook and have her family there to eat with her; she always wanted to make sure no one went hungry. Ruby loved to take trips to the mountains and to Florida. Her smiles, laughs and personality were contagious and if you needed a best friend, she was the one to have. Ruby was a very dedicated mother and grandmother that love to sit and work puzzles, play games, tell great stories of the past and hold her grandbabies. Ruby was a very classy, witty, and charming lady; giving, loving, and forgiving others were a great traits she had. Her last day on earth will always stay in our memories; reading, singing, praying, and talking to her was a blessing and we know without a doubt that she will be waiting for us when it’s our time. She loved the Lord with all her heart and soul. Ruby would ask us all to get right with God so that we could all be together again. She attended the Walton Chapel Church of Christ. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and all who knew her. Ruby is survived by; daughter, Shirley Jones of Red Boiling Springs, TN, son, Jackie Gross of Hartsville, TN, grandchildren, Chris Gross, Paula Satterfield, Pam Deshazier,
Tammy Brawner, Todd Jones, and Jeff Brewer, ten great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews; also survive.
