D. Birdwell, age 73, of Lafayette, passed away late Friday afternoon at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Gallatin, TN. Funeral services for J. D. Birdwell were conducted on Monday, October 11, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Anderson & Son Funeral Home in Lafayette with Jimmy Cook and Dale Sadler officiating.

Mason Sadler, Mike Tomlin, Paul Biles, Mike Hackett, and Ricky Butler served as Honorary Pallbearers. Active Pallbearers were Matthew Birdwell, Evan Birdwell, Dyron Birdwell, Jonathan Hudson, Wesley Kenyon, Brent Duffer, Dan Birdwell, and Justin Gardner. He was transported to his grave site at Anderson & Son Memorial Park in the 1936 Packard Hearse. J. D. was born on Sunday, October 11, 1936 in Clay County, Tennessee, one of nine siblings born to the late Turner Hayden and Ocia Lee (Cherry) Birdwell. He was married on August 26, 1957 to the former Sue Carter, who survives. He worked at Imperial Reading from 1964 to 1979 as a sewing machine mechanic and worked at American Greetings from November 1979 to January of 2000. He was Church of Christ in belief. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Guy Birdwell and a sister, Ella Marie Birdwell. In addition to his wife of 53 years, he is survived by, sons and daughters-in-law, Barry and Patty Birdwell of Hermitage Springs, TN, Larry and Beverly Birdwell of Lafayette, TN, daughters and son-in-law, Brenda Gardner of Murfreesboro, TN, Tammy Hudson, of Lafayette, TN, Malita and Dale Sadler of White House, TN, brothers and sister-in-law, Joe Birdwell of Lafayette, TN, Jackie and Sheila Birdwell of Red Boiling Springs, TN, sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruth Feinstein of Nashville, TN, Evelyn and Grady Bilbrey of the Mt. Vernon Community in Clay County, TN, Geraldine Wix of Lafayette, TN, and Linda and Marty Smith of Murfreesboro, TN, grandchildren, Lindsay Kenyon, Dyron Birdwell, Jonathan Hudson, Justin Gardner, Miranda Hudson, Mason Sadler, and Campbell Sadler and a host of other family and friends.
