Macon County, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, November 19, 2010 at his residence.

As per Sonny’s wishes, the family chose cremation.  His ashes were scattered across a hill
on his property, better known as “Sonny’s Mountain in God’s Country Tennessee”.

There was a memorial service on Thursday, November 22, 2010 at Water’s Cemetery in
Blackshear, Georgia at 3 p.m. He was born in Pierce County, Georgia to the late Helen Phillips Ammons and Wendell H. Phillips. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by; stepfather, Ashley Ammons, brother, Ray Phillips, sister, Sybil Phillips Carter and a grandson, Matthew Moss. Sonny attended and played football for Blackshear High School. He moved to Tennessee where he raised his family and lived there until his death. He was an avid sports fan and he especially loved football. Mr. Phillips is survived by; his ex-wife, MaryJo Phillips, two sons, Clay (Barbara) Phillips of Kansas, Chris Phillips of Florida, two daughters, Dawn Moss and Melissa Norton of Florida, four sisters, Evelyn (Charles) Campbell, Theresa Williams, Joyce (Bud) Bryson, and Sheila Ricker, and three brothers, Bill Ammons of Louisiana, Jackie (Peggy) Ammons of Fitzgerald, Georgia, Morris Ammons of Louisiana, and a step sister, Sue Gilliard of
Florida, 13 Grandchildren, 5 Great-Grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, great

nieces and nephews and many loving friends.
