Gladys Hagan Vaughn, 81

Gladys Hagan Vaughn, 81, of Rock Island, died Saturday, June 18, 2011 at her home, surrounded by her family. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Thursday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island.  Burial is at the National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Visitation is an hour prior to the service Thursday. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

 Gladys Hagan was born on June 30, 1929 in Red Boiling Springs, Tenn., a daughter of Chester and Norma Parkhurst Hagan. She married Billy Joe Vaughn on September 22, 1956, in Springfield, Tenn. She retired from the International Harvester Corp. Farmall Works, Rock Island and had also worked at Seaford Clothing and Servus Rubber Co. Gladys attended cardiac rehab at the PEPISCO center in Rock Island. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening and especially spending time with her family. Survivors include her husband, Billy Joe; children, Barbara (Robert) Widener, Milan, and Paul Vaughn and Doris Vaughn, both of Rock Island; grandchildren, Denise Pontzius, Tonya Widener, Chad Widener, Justin Vaughn and Lindsey Vaughn; six great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; a brother, James Hagan, Red Boiling Springs; sisters, Mildred Roark and Georgia (Cortess) Armour, both of Red Boiling Springs; and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Annette Vaughn; sisters, Alma Ruth Hix and Myrtle Bohanon; and brothers, Kenneth and Robert Hagan.
