Funeral Services for Ms. Ruth Cothron Sloan were conducted on Saturday, June 18, at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of the Alexander Funeral Home with Reverend Guthrie Gregory and Brother Jerry Gammon officiating. Brian Carr, Shane Nichols, Billy Brawner, Troy Cothron, Fred Cothron, and Judson Clark served as Pallbearers. Interment followed in the Eulia Cemetery.

Ruth was born on July 22, 1927 in Macon County, Tennessee to the late Elisha Clay and Susan Vance Cothron. She was one of six children born to this union. In 1944, she was married to Cecil Ray Sloan, sharing 26 years together and raising two daughters. Cecil Ray preceded her in death on November 12, 1970. Besides her husband and parents; daughter, Marjorie Carr, grandson, Jeff Carr, brothers, Fred V. Cothron, Howard Cothron, and Carl Cothron, and a half-sister, Lassie Key, also preceded her in death. She was employed by C. & C. Sportswear in Westmoreland, working there for several years until she retired in 1990. Ruth spent most of her time with her children and grandchildren; they were her life. She was a very quiet and laid back person. She mostly enjoyed staying at home and watching her favorite television shows. She was of the General Baptist Belief. Ruth will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Ruth is survived by: daughter, Shirley (Mike) Nichols, brothers, Donnie (Maureen) Cothron all of Lafayette, TN, and Harold Gene Cothron of Hartsville, TN, grandchildren, Brian Carr of Lafayette, TN, Kim (Elton) Mathews of Hartsville, TN, Shane (Tammy) Nichols, and Shanda (Billy) Brawner all of Lafayette, TN, seven great-grandchildren, one great great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews, also survive.
