Clifton McClain Shrum, 91
Clifton McClain Shrum, 91 years of age, of Stonecrest Manor in Lafayette
Tennessee passed away October 10, 2011 at St. Thomas Hospital after a brief
illness. Funeral services for Mr. Clifton M. Shrum were conducted
Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Elder Ricky
Wilson and Reverend Terry Hagan officiating. Interment followed in the
Macon County Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are his
grandsons: Derrick Shrum, Alex Shrum, Mac Watson, and nephews Audie Cook,
Ronnie Cook, Tim Gann, and Danny Shrum. Clifton was the oldest son of Hazel
Audie and Priscilla Oma Shrum. Clifton married the love of his life Joyce
Butler Shrum in 1943 before shipping out to war. He was a decorated
veteran of WW II serving in the D- Day Invasion, the Battle of the Bulge and
was a member of General Patton’s forces which liberated P.O.W. camps and
concentration camps across Europe. Clifton was best known for his years as the
owner of Clifton’s Quik Dip restaurant in Lafayette. Clifton’s, as it was affectionately
referred to by the hundreds of Macon County teenagers was a place where kids
spent many happy days and nights circling the restaurant and enjoying good food
and good times in a wholesome atmosphere. His ability to provide a place
for kids to gather was always special to him. Clifton also worked at the
Hartsville Nuclear Plant and in his latter years alongside his son Mark at
Championship trophies where the staff there, were like a 2nd family to him.
Clifton enjoyed collecting glassware and
enjoyed square dancing and spending time with his family. He was saved as a
young man and joined Old Bottom Missionary Baptist Church in 1953, later he
enjoyed attending Lafayette Missionary Baptist Church. Preceding him in death
in addition to his parents were his wife, Joyce in 1981, his sons, David in
1993 and Mark in 2009, brother, Billy and his wife Mabel Shrum and sister,
Hazel Cook Tuck of Lafayette. Surviving to cherish his memory
are; daughters, Marilyn (Billy) Randolph, Smyrna, TN. Priscilla (Pat) Watson,
Brentwood, TN. and son, Phillip (Jill) Shrum of Goodlettsville,
Daughters-in-law, Lynn Shrum of Lafayette, TN, and Judy Shrum Blair of Bowling
Green, KY, his sister, Helen Gann of Lafayette, TN, grandchildren, Derrick
Shrum, Dana Winkler, Melissa Cummins, Robin Cox, Lindsay Watson Daman,
Mac Watson, Kande Jacobsen, Brooke O’Donnell, Korie Ducharme, Allie Ellis, and
Alex Shrum, great grandchildren, James
Thurman, Logan Winkler, Jordyn Cummins, Zach Cummins, Zoie Ducharme, Luke
Ducharme, Kylie Cox, MaKenzie Cox, Cain Cox, and James Thurman, and one great
great-grandchild, Blake Thurman. Alexander Funeral
