Helen Mae Walker, 92

Helen Mae Walker passed away peacefully the evening of September 15, 2012 at Sumner Regional Medical Center. She was born June 23, 1920 in Portsmouth Ohio to Wilmer and Lula Hefner. Helen worked at Wright Patterson Military Base during World War II of which she was very proud. Helen Hefner was married to Paul Walker on June 19, 1943 and they have two sons, Larry and Jerry. They moved to Lafayette in 1953, where she managed Alexander Funeral Home for 26 years with her husband Paul. Until 1979, she lived upstairs in Alexander Funeral Home and called this building “home”, where she raised her two sons. Helen was a loving mother and grandmother. On September 30, 1979, Paul preceded her in death. Helen was also preceded in death by sisters, Dorothy McClellan, Mary Walden, and Betty Clark. She loved watching Atlanta Braves baseball and listening to the Statler Brothers. Helen was active as a member of Lafayette First Baptist Church serving on the Hostess Committee, Queen Esther Class, The Son Shiners, and the WMU, Women’s Missionary Union. She was also a very active volunteer in the community. Helen will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. She is survived by; Sons, Larry Walker and wife Vonnie, Jerry Walker and wife Jennifer, Grandchildren, Tracy Lampley and husband Anthony, Jeremy Walker and wife Julie, Jada Pruitt and husband Brett, Great grandson, Canaan Lampley, Sister, Sara Wilson , Sister-in-law, Mary Jo Walker. Funeral Services were conducted from the Chapel of Alexander Funeral Home in Lafayette on Tuesday at 11 AM. Interment followed in the Macon County Memorial Gardens.
