Talmadge Eurlee Overton, 79

Talmadge Eurlee Overton, of Lafayette, was born in Macon County on July 5, 1933, one of nine children, to the late James “Herley” and Myra Maybell Minick Overton. He departed this life on February 15, 2013 at the age of 79 years. Funeral services for Talmadge Overton were conducted on Saturday, February 23, 2013 from the Anderson & Son Funeral Home in Lafayette with family members speaking. Interment with military honors followed in the Anderson & Son Memorial Park.  Pallbearers were Roger Overton, Barry Hawkins, Larry Overton, Alex Irkily, James Cox and Charles Overton. Talmadge graduated from Macon County High School in 1952 and was drafted into the US Army, serving active duty from 1953 to 1955 as a Military Policeman during the Korean Conflict. After serving, he attended Western Kentucky University and graduated with a BS in Education from Middle Tennessee State University. He began his teaching career with the Macon County Board of Education in 1959 and retired in 1995. He taught Science, Biology and World Geography at High School and Elementary grades. Prior to teaching, he worked at Genesco in Gallatin, TN and International Harvester in Indianapolis, IN. Talmadge was active in the local community, serving on the Macon County Commission, as Justice of the Peace and managing the local swimming pool in summers. After his retirement, he hosted two exchange students; Frank Schoenberger from Germany and Alex Irkily from the Ukraine. Both graduated from Macon County High School. During his retirement, he taught World Geography at Volunteer State Community College. He enjoyed spending time working in his garden, researching family genealogy, spending time with his family and friends, traveling around the world and offering free advice. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Johnnie Overton, James Overton, Darrell Overton, and C.T. Overton. He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Kelley and Debbie Overton, Brentwood, TN, Seth and Joye Overton, Redding, CA; sisters and brother-in-law, Viola Estes, TX, Juanita Beasley, Westmoreland, TN, Dottie and Billie Joe Hawkins, Lafayette, TN; brother, David and Pat Overton, Lafayette, TN; sisters-in-law, Hortense Overton, Lillian Overton, both of Siloam Community, Catherine Overton, Indianapolis, IN; grandchildren, Katie Overton, Kelsie Overton, Kylie Overton, Madeline Overton, Cooper Overton, Asa Overton; several nieces and nephews.
