Roger D Willis

Roger Dale Willis was born into this world on September 25, 1949, and departed this life on Monday, August 22, 2022, at the age of seventy-two years, ten months, and twenty-eight days. He was one of three boys born to the late James Fountain Willis and Nettie Mae Dallas Willis. Along with his dear parents, Roger was also preceded in death by his brother, Hollis Willis. He was of the Baptist belief. He was raised in the New Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Roger was saved by the sweet lord’s grace later in life and told his family that he was alright. Roger, also known as “Buttermilk”, was a farmer by trade and loved it. He raised cattle and tobacco. Roger and his brother rolled hay for the public and Roger always took pride in his tractors and a job well done. As a young man, Roger would wake up at the crack of dawn, eat breakfast, and head out to milk the cows, and then to the fields, sometimes not getting back home until after sundown. Roger enjoyed watching a good tractor pull. In his spare time, you could find Roger hunting and fishing. He hunted for rabbit and squirrel and loved a fried rabbit or squirrel supper. Roger liked to grapple for fish and he also liked to go frog gigging. Roger was the jokester of the family. He looked forward to holidays and family gatherings. He especially enjoyed backyard cookouts, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Roger loved spending time with his parents and brothers, and watching his nieces and nephews grow up. His Great-Nieces and Nephews brought him a lot of joy in his last years. Roger will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
