Tigers begin district competition

The Macon County High baseball team began their district competition in earnest this week. They also played in three other non-conference games.
On Monday Apr 1 the Tigers hosted Station Camp. According to Coach Jason Hudson this conference voted to have all conference games start at 7 pm.
The Tigers led 3-1 after two innings. However some errors led to Station Camp retaking the lead and getting the win by a score of 15-6. The game was much more competitive than that score indicates.
Charting hits for the Tigers were: Jordan Rogers (2), Kaden Woodard (2), Jake Meador, Chase Keene, Braylon Flowers (2), and Hayes Polston. Hunter Patterson was the pitcher of record and took the loss throwing 5 2/3 innings allowing eight hits and four earned runs. Chase Keene threw 1 1/3 innings of relief and gave up four hits and four earned runs.
On Tuesday Apr 2 Macon traveled to Station Camp. This was another tight game that Station Camp wins 2-0.
Jacob Hunt threw six innings allowing four hits and two earned runs with seven strike-outs. Woodard had the only hit for the Tigers.
On Apr 4th Macon traveled to Trousdale County. With the game tied 1-1 after three innings, Macon scores runs in each of the last four innings to win 8-2.
Rogers, Hayden Dean, Matthew Wheeley (2), Keene (2), Flowers, and Polston (3) all had hits. Eli Carver (2), Rogers, Dean (2), Wheeley (2), and Keene all scored runs. Flowers got the complete game win throwing seven innings giving up five hits and two earned runs with eight strike-outs.
Macon next traveled to Gainesboro to play in the Alex Cassetty Classic. Alex was an 18 year old baseball player at Jackson County who was killed in a car accident a month before graduation. It is hard to believe my first cousin has been gone 30 years now but I am proud that his name lives on in the field and tournament held every year in his memory.
On Apr 5th Macon faced off against Monroe County (KY). This game was called at the time limit and ended in a 2-2 tie after six innings.
Landon Connor threw 1 1/3 innings and allowed one hit and one earned run while Keene threw 4 2/3 innings and allowed four hits and one earned run. Carver, Dean, Flowers, and Gage Jones all collected hits.
On Saturday Apr 6 the Tigers played Metcalf County (KY). A big five run fourth inning blew this game open for the Tigers pushing them to a 7-2 win.
Wheeley got another complete game win for the Tigers. He threw 6 innings allowing five hits and two earned runs and registering 11 strike-outs. Carver, Dean, Wheeley (2), Flowers, Jones, Polston, and Connor (2) all had hits.
This week will be one of the busiest of the year for the Tigers. On Monday Apr 8 they travel to face district opponent Greenbrier then host Greenbrier on Apr 9 with both games starting at 7 pm. On Thursday Apr 11 Macon will host Westmoreland at 5 pm. The annual ‘school game’ (as I call it) will be on Friday Apr 12 at MCHS against Red Boiling Springs at 1:30 pm for the MCHS students to attend. Then later at 5 pm on Friday the Tigers will host Clay County. The sixth and final game of the week will be on Saturday Apr 13 as Macon will host White County at 1 pm in the afternoon.
