The Macon County Chronicle, located in Lafayette, Tennessee, got its start in 1993, when it was first published by a 2-person staff in the city of Red Boiling Springs, who dreamed of giving the community a voice.

As its popularity grew, so did the Chronicle size and staff, and the weekly paper moved to a more centralized location in Lafayette so to better suit the needs of the county and its expanding readership, in 2005.

Adding the first splash of color to its pages in August of 2005, The Chronicle has quadrupled in size since its first 8-page edition in ‘93 and has been titled ‘Macon County’s fasting growing’ and ‘largest circulating’ newspaper.

Published every Tuesday, the Chronicle is Macon County’s only locally owned news source and is committed to providing the most accurate, up-to-date information and coverage of local events in the area.

First established by the late Jim Durham of Red Boiling Springs, The Chronicle was eventually bought in the fall of 2010 by Marcus R. Darnell, owner of Macon Publishing.

The winner of numerous Tennessee Press Awards for its coverage, visual quality and writing, the Chronicle continues to add to its accomplishments and is a proud member of the Tennessee Press Association.

Working for the residents of Macon County, the Chronicle is committed to reporting on the issues that effect the community, investigating resident topics and concerns and providing its readers with a broad scope of local event coverage. We feel that we do this better than anyone else in our primary area.

The Chronicle staff has been proud to be a part of Macon County since its birth in 1993 and looks forward to serving its community for many years to come.
