Dr. Jamii Johnson Joins Staff at Macon County General Hospital
Dr. Johnson received his undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia in 2007 with a major in Biology. He began medical school at Meharry Medical College in Nashville in 2008 and graduated in 2012. Since 2012 he has been in residency at Meharry working in Family Medicine.
Dr. Johnson was introduced to Macon County through the Tennessee Rural Partnership program through a rural rotation in Macon County. The Tennessee Rural Partnership facilitates opportunities for medical residents in a Tennessee primary care residence training program to participate in rotations with doctors in rural areas across the state. Dr. Johnson came and took part in the program and was sponsored by Dr. Hannah Illia at the Family Care Center in Lafayette.
Dr. Johnson completed his rural rotation in the summer of 2014. “Most people do not realize that our area is under-served by physicians. With that desperate need, it is important that we have new doctors coming to practice in Macon County,” said Dr. Illia. “I think Dr. Johnson is a knowledgeable, down-to-earth young man who will be an asset to our community and I am pleased that he will be working at the Family Care Center.”
Macon County General Hospital CEO Dennis Wolfard also spoke highly of Dr. Johnson. “We are so pleased to extend full active privileges to Dr. Johnson once he begins his practice here.” Wolford added, “He is a very dynamic individual and we believe he will be a great fit for all the patients in Macon County who are in his care.”
Originally from Atlanta, Dr. Johnson is eager to hang his shingle in Lafayette. “I am really looking forward to getting to know all the people in Macon County.” He indicated that Dr. Illia’s practice was key in his decision to move to Lafayette. “I really liked all the patients, staff, and all the people I met in and out of Dr. Illia’s office. His practice is just how I envision running my own one day.”
