Brawner Sentenced to Ten Years

The attempted first degree murder case against William Jason Brawner, of Lafayette, has been settled.

William Brawner entered a guilty plea to the lesser charge of attempted second degree murder of his wife last year, before Judge Brody Kane on Friday, October 6, 2017, in Macon County. He was sentenced to 10 years, as a Range I offender, to serve.

As a part of this plea agreement, count two of the indictment, which was aggravated domestic assault, was nolled.
Macon County Chronicle readers may recall, on Saturday, July 16, 2016, the Lafayette Police Department was called to 612 Days Road, where Krystal Dawn Brawner was reported to have been hit in the head with a tire iron by her husband, William Jason Brawner.
When a Lafayette police officer responded to the scene, he found Krystal Brawner covered in blood and asking for help, before her husband killed her.
After Mrs. Brawner and two of her children were secured in the back of a patrol car, officers approached the residence and began to clear it. Mr. Brawner had left the home, but another child was found asleep in the home and unharmed.
LPD Officer Derrick Gann investigated the scene, took photos, and retrieved the tire iron.
William Jason Brawner showed up at the Macon County Sheriffs Office and in a written statement he said that the couple had been arguing and he hit his wife in the face with his fist and then the tire iron. He stated that he felt like Krystal “had this coming” and “deserved it.” He also stated that he had a history of meth use.
He was charged with attempted first degree murder and aggravated domestic assault.
