Man Arrested in Undercover Sex Crimes Investigation

A 41-year-old Westmoreland man is behind bars on a $100,000 bond following an undercover sex crimes investigation.

According to the affidavit of complaint filed by Detective Danny Meador, of the Macon County Sheriff’s Department, the investigation began on February 2, 2023.

During the investigation, on February 8, 2023, it was discovered that Jimmy Patterson, who is on the sex offender registry, sent inappropriate photos of his private parts to an undercover female, that he acknowledged to be 15 years old. 

Mr. Patterson suggested meeting at a local market in Lafayette, with the intention of performing sexual acts with the female. 

Undercover officers met Patterson there instead, where he was taken into custody on February 25, 2023.

During his arrest, he admitted to having methamphetamine in his pocket.

It was also discovered that Patterson had not reported for the registry his address or electronic devices. 

He was charged with 3 counts of failure to report (sex offender), solicitation of person under the age of 18, manufacture, possession or delivery of methamphetamine and exploitation of a minor by electronic means. 

Patterson is scheduled to appear in general sessions court on March 8, 2023.
