Lafayette Man Attempts to Strangle Brother

Forty-six-year-old Ronald Dwight Murray, of Lafayette, was arrested on Friday, March 3, 2023, after allegedly attempting to strangle his brother during an argument at an apartment on Akersville Rd. 

According to the affidavit of complaint filed by arresting officer, Deputy Derek Carlisle of the Macon County Sheriff’s Department, he was dispatched to the apartment for a domestic incident and learned the suspect in question, Ronald Dwight Murray, had committed two domestic assaults at the same address earlier in the day.

Sergeant Elliott Sandifer did take active warrants out for Mr. Murray for the previous criminal charges.

Upon Deputy Carlisle’s arrival, he began speaking with two male subjects who identified themselves as Murray’s father and brother. 

Murray’s brother, who was the victim in this incident, advised that Murray arrived at the residence and began arguing with him, and would not leave when asked to by his father. 

While seated at a table, Murray began arguing with his brother again, then approached him and placed his hands around his throat, trying to strangle him. 

When Murray’s father called 911, he fled the scene on foot. 

Murray was located by law enforcement in a tobacco barn several yards from the residence, attempting to evade police. 

Mr. Murray was charged with aggravated assault, domestic violence, evading arrest and domestic violence (2 counts). His bond is set ay $19,000, and he is scheduled to appear in general sessions court on April 5, 2023.
