Macon Community Hospital Celebrates 70 Years of Service

Lafayette, TN – May 12, 2025 – Macon Community Hospital marked a major milestone on Monday with a special event celebrating its 70th anniversary of service to the community. The celebration, held on the hospital campus, drew a crowd of employees,MCH Board members local business leaders, members of the medical community, and distinguished guests.
Among those in attendance were Senator Ken Yager, Congressman John Rose, Macon County Mayor Steve Jones, and Macon Community Hospital CEO Scott Tongate. Also present was Dr. Ilia,Dr. Odunusi and Dr. Patterson, Dr,Koch and Dr. Bayssie, representing the hospital’s medical leadership. The celebration highlighted the hospital’s long-standing commitment to providing quality care to the people of Macon County and surrounding areas. As a 25-bed rural facility, Macon Community Hospital offers a full range of services including inpatient care, swing bed services, physical and occupational therapy, radiology, laboratory diagnostics, and a dedicated emergency department.
“This hospital has been a cornerstone of our community for seven decades,” said CEO Scott Tongate. “We’re proud of our dedicated staff, grateful for our community’s support, and excited for the future as we continue to provide compassionate, high-quality care close to home.”
The event featured remarks from local and state leaders, recognition of long-time employees, and reflections on the hospital’s history and growth over the years. Guests also enjoyed refreshments and a walk-through exhibit showcasing milestones and memories from the past 70 years.
As Macon Community Hospital looks ahead, it remains committed to expanding services and enhancing care for the rural communities it serves — just as it has since its doors first opened in 1955.
