Macon picks up more district wins

The basketball teams at Macon County High School recorded some more district wins this past week. They had two different nights of basketball as the regular season nears its end.
The first night was a trip to Watertown. The Tigerettes came ready to play but trailed by five points at half, 24-29. This contest had many scoring changes but eventually they just could not make up the difference and Macon lost 46-49.
Scoring was: Allie Kate Austin 20 points, Kaylee Slayton 7 points, Katie Jo Shockley 7 points, Chloe Solomon 7 points, and Ariana Jones 5 points. Savannah Keen played but did not score.
The boys’ game was much like the girls with one difference. The Tigers fell behind Watertown 28-34 at halftime. They came roaring back in the third period to lead 49-45. Macon picked the wrong time to struggle getting the ball in the hoop as they were outscored down the stretch 8-17. The Tigers lose this one 57-62.
Scoring was: Braylon Marshall 17 points, McKade Mix 13 points, Aiden Barlow 13 points, Brody Huffines 11 points, and Jake Meador 3 points. Owen Gentry played but did not score.
On Feb 13th Macon hosted Murfreesboro Central Magnet for Senior Night at Nera White Gymnasium. The Tigerettes led 13-7 after the first period only to trail 20-21 at the break. The game had a total of 10lead changes before the Tigerettes finally pulled away in the fourth quarter to get the win 55-47.
Scoring was: Austin 15, Shockley 14, Slayton 9, Keene 7, Solomon 6, and Jones 4. Keelyn Gregory and Grace Sircy played but did not score.
The Tigers managed to outscore Central Magnet in every quarter to cruise to a 73-59 win. They led 35-25 at the break and 57-32 at the end of the third period.
Scoring was: Mix 18, Barlow 17, Meador 11, Marshall 10, and Huffines recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Macon County has one final district make-up game this week on Tuesday Feb 17th at Murfreesboro Central Magnet. This will have playoff implications for both squads for the district tournament which should begin early next week.
