My View from the Press Box- Livingston

By Tim Case

  The MCHS Tigers
(3-5) hosted the Livingston Academy Wildcats (7-1) last Friday night for the
final regular season home game and parents’ night.  The Tigers were in a must win situation to
keep their playoff hopes alive.   The
Tigers responded with a shut out win 19-0.

  Macon Co. scored
with 1:09 left in the 2
nd quarter on a Jessie Newberry four yard TD
run.  The PAT was no good and the Tigers
led 6-0 at the half.

  Macon took the
opening kick-off of the 3
rd period and marched 66 yards in 7
plays.  Tyler Drown capped the drive with
a six yard TD run.  The 2 point
conversion failed and the Tigers led 12-0.
The Tigers scored again with 5:31 left in the 4
th quarter
when Newberry scored his 2
nd TD of the night on a 1 yard run off
right tackle.  Carson Cook added the PAT
giving the Tigers a 19-0 lead.  The
Tigers’ defense held off a late drive by the Wildcats to get the shut-out and
the win.  MC rolled up 287 yards of total
offense while holding the Wildcats to only 117 yards.

  The Tigers improve
to 4-5 on the season and will travel to Westmoreland this Friday night to take
on the Eagles.  The Tigers can secure a 4A
wildcard playoff bid with a win Friday night.
A loss would mean the Tigers’ fate would be resting on the outcome of
other games with no assurances.  The
Tigers are in a “Win and you’re in” situation.

  The Eagles (3-6) are
playing for a wildcard spot as well.  If
the Eagles get to 4 wins they would still have a chance for a 3A playoff bid pending
the outcome of other games.  A district
rival game with big playoff implications, High School football couldn’t be any
better as we enter the last game of the season with so much at stake for both
teams.  Come out and cheer the Tigers on
to victory and “I’ll see you at the game.”
