The Grace of God

Error in Last Week’s Article

Last week’s article stated that 67% of Americans are Christians.  It

should have read that 67% of Americans believe in Christianity.  There is a

vast difference in being a Christian and believing in Christianity.  Contrary to

President Obama’s remarks concerning religion in America, belief in Christi-

anity is not fading.  Christianity, by the way, is the only true religion.  All

others are man-made.

By Grace

When a person works an eight-hour day and receives a fair day’s pay for

his time, that is a wage.

When a person competes with an opponent and receives a trophy for his

performance, that is a prize.

When a person receives appropriate recognition for his long service or

high achievements, that is an award.

But when a person is not capable of earning a wage, can win no prize,

and deserves no award- yet receives such a gift anyway- that is a grace.

This is what we mean when we talk about the grace of God.

Compliments

The lady took her 5-year-old daughter shopping with her.  The little girl

watched her mother try on one outfit after another, and each time the little

girl said, “Mommy, you look beautiful.”  Finally a woman in the next fitting

room called out, “May I borrow your daughter for a moment?”

(See Proverbs 16:24.)

Long-Winded

A preacher, known for his lengthy sermons, noticed a man get up and

leave during the middle of his message.  The man returned just before the

conclusion of the service.  Afterwards the preacher asked the man where he

had gone.

“I went to get a haircut,” was the reply.

“But,” said the preacher, “why didn’t you do that before the service?”

“Because,” the gentleman said, “I didn’t need one then.”
