MCHS Baseball on 10 Game Win-Streak

The MCHS Baseball team is currently riding a wave of good tiding this season. In 11 games they have a 10 game winning streak underway.

On Monday the 15th, the Tigers travelled to Westmoreland. The Tigers took the lead in the top of the first but the Eagles came back to tie the game 3-3 in the sixth. In an odd move the game was suspended at the end of nine innings due to light, as the field in Westmoreland does not have lights. They resumed the game the next day. In the top of the 10th Macon got hot at the plate. After scoring five runs, the Tigers gave up three runs but held on for the win by a final score of 8-6.

Austin Taft went 4 for 6 scoring one run and collecting one RBI. Tyler Clark had two RBIs and Jacob McClard had one home run. Dalton Shrum started and did not give up an earned run, striking out 12 thru 5 2/3 innings. Austin Craighead got the win and pitched the last 4 1/3 innings and gave up 3 earned runs.

After finishing the Monday game in Lafayette, the second match against Westmoreland began. The Tigers continued the hitting feast, scoring five runs in the first, five in the second, two in the third, and three in the forth. The game was called due to the 10 run rule in the fifth inning. Final score MCHS 11 WHS 1.

Ian Whittemore went 2 for 3 and scored two runs. Ryan Craighead was 2 for 3 and had three RBIs. Larken Whittemore got the win with 10 strikeouts in 5 innings, giving up only one hit and no earned runs.

On Thursday the 18th, the Tigers played in the Walking Horse Classic in Murfreesboro against Sparta. Macon has 13 hits in the game with only one error. The Tigers never trail and win by a final score of 6-0.

Austin Craighead hits 2 for 3 with one RBI and scores one run. Shane Hesson hits 2 for 4 scoring one run and one RBI on a home run. Johnny Brown pitches the shut-out, striking out 13 batters.

The second game of the tournament was against Community. In only the second game of the season where the Macon defense does not commit an error, they pick up the win by a final score of 3-1 despite being out-hit seven to four and with the other team committing two errors.

Tyler Kemp went I for 2 but picked up all three RBIs. Ryan Craighead went 2 for 3 and scored a run. Jacob McClard gets credit for the win in going the distance for Macon.

In the final game of the Classic on Saturday the 20th, MCHS played District 12AA member Page. The Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead after two innings. Page tied the game in the third and again in the fourth at 3 all. MCHS scored again in the top of the 6th but Page tied the game 4-4. In a tournament rule, the game was declared a draw as the time limit for the contest was reached. Final MCHS 4 Page 4.

Dalton Shrum pitches two innings, Tyler Kemp pitches four innings, and Ian Whittemore pitches one inning, giving up no earned runs in the game. However the streak does not go to 11 games as the Tiger defense commits two more errors. Sloppy defensive play will cost this team in the post-season if they do not get their act together.

This week MCHS will host 9AA league leader Goodpasture Christian on the 22nd and they will travel to Goodpasture on the 23rd. One win in the series will guarantee a third place finish in the district and could possibly garner second place. The Tigers are schedule to travel to RBS on Thursday the 25th.
