alt

The Red Boiling Springs Bulldogs lost a nail-biter to the Cannon County Lions. The Lions held off a late RBS challenge to hold on to the 28-25 victory.

To open up the game Michael Tirjan and Dakota Dickens do the work in the Bulldogs first drive. Dickens takes a carry in 10 yards to put the Bulldogs up 7-0 with 8:12 left to go. The Bulldogs first defensive possession they came out and forced a three-and-out from the Lions. The Lions next offensive possession, they have an 80 yard run which ends in a 10 yard score to tie the game up 7-7 with 2:35 left to go.

To start off the 2nd quarter Dickens takes a 15 yard carry into the endzone for a touchdown to put the Bulldogs up 13-7 with 9:59 left to go. The next defensive possession for the Bulldogs, they get two tackles in the backfield one by Dickens and the other by Eric Garcia to force a Lion punt. In the middle of the second quarter, Cannon takes a 30 yard run in for a touchdown to tie the game up 13-13. A costly Bulldog fumble would set up the Lions in good field position. Two plays later the Lions rip off a long run for a touchdown to take the lead 21-13 to end the half.

To start the second half the Bulldog defensive forced a turnover on downs to get the ball back on the 28 yard line.  Both defenses played excellent in the 3rd quarter with no scoring at all. The Bulldogs would end the 3rd quarter down 21-13.

As the Bulldogs would get the ball early in the 4th, turnovers would again prove costly. RBS turns the ball over at midfield to give the Lions good field position. When it looked as if the Lions would score, the Bulldog defense holds, and they have to have to punt with 7:17 left to go. The Bulldogs next offensive possession Mason Hewitt throws an interception to give the Lions the ball back on the 40 yard line. Cannon County gets a 40 yard run for a touchdown to increase their lead 28-13 with 6:39 left to go. The Bulldogs proceed to march down the field and complete the drive with a 15 yard touchdown run by Billy York to make the score a little closer, 28-19, with 3:26 left to go. The Bulldogs would recover the onsides kick with 3:22 seconds left to go in the game. Again the Bulldogs march down the field and score on a Dickens 5 yard run to put the score at 28-25 with 1:00 left to go. RBS fails to recover another onsides kick and the Lions would kill the clock. Final score Cannon Co 28 RBS 25.

The loss puts the Bulldogs record at 1-3 this season. RBS will go on the road next week to play Watertown on Friday September 20th.
