Macon Baseball Competes in East Robertson Tournament
The Macon County High School Tigers concluded a long week of action at a week-end tournament at East Robertson High School.
The Tigers played in six games in six days.
On Monday the Tigers hosted DeKald County for a District 8AA game. Johnny Brown finally gets a win with run support. He goes the distance and picks up the win by a final score of 5-2. The Tigers played a much sounder game and turned back multiple rally in capturing this victory.
On Tuesday the 15th Macon travelled to DeKalb. Unfortunately Justin Woodard gets credit for a close loss. Despite a scoreless game to begin the bottom of the 6th inning, DeKalb strings together a few hits and score a few runs. Macon looses this one 0-3 but plays a decent game.
On the 16th the Tigers begin in the East Robertson Tournament. Hunter Williams collects the loss giving up 2 earned runs in 4 innings. The Tigers only collect 5 total hits on weaker pitching than they have seen earlier in the season. Brandon Noles and Michael Ashburn score runs but the Tigers lose 2-6.
In the second game of the tourney Macon faces Jo Byrns. Jacob Brown, Jessie Gregory, and Clay Carnahan go 1 for 3 and Brandon Noles and Brown score the only two runs for the Tigers. Noles was the pitcher of record giving up one earned run on 3 hits. The Tigers lose a tough one by a final of 2-5.
In the first of two games on the 19th, Macon faced East Nashville. Jessie Gregory gets credit for the loss giving up 5 earned runs on 6 hits. Jacob Brown did go 2 for 3 and scored one run at the lead-off position. However the Macon just couldn’t seem to be able to hit anything. The Tigers lose 4 -10.
In the second and final game the Tigers played Gordonsville. An ugly monster reared its head. Despite carrying a 5-3 lead into the top of the 7th inning and final inning, the Tiger defense looses their focus. Four defensive errors later and Macon gives up a 5-6 loss to Gordonsville. Noles takes the heartbreaking loss giving up only 2 earned runs on 8 hits and one walk. Austin Craighead went 2 for 2 and scored 2 runs. One step forward and two steps back.
This week the Tigers travel to Cannon County on Monday and host Cannon on Tuesday. On the 24th they face White House for the second time close out the week hosting Trousdale County on Saturday.
