Macon Tigers lose to Upperman
The Macon County Tigers let one slip through their fingers on October 10th against the Upperman Bees.
Upperman came from behind to win 34-28.
Macon scored on its first possession. Seth Carlisle had a 32 yard run and Brandon Noles added the PAT for a 7-0 Tiger lead. With 0:01 left in the 1st Carlisle broke free and scored on a 74 yard scamper. Noles added the PAT and Macon led 14-0. Upperman would score on a 65 yard pass with 10:26 left in the first half and Marshall Avera would block the PAT. The Tigers would keep pushing and Seth Carlisle hit Noles with a 35 yard pass for the score. At the half Macon would lead 21-6.
The Tigers received the second half kick-off. They went 3 and out and Upperman scored on their first play with a 54 yard TD pass. Score 21-12 Macon. The Tigers would go 3 and out again and two plays later Upperman would score on a 65 yard run. Now the Tigers clung to a 21-20 lead with momentum clearly in the Bees favor. The Tigers mustered some offense when Seth Carlisle hit Tyler Carlisle for a 46 yard pitch and catch. Following Noles PAT Macon led 28-20. Upperman would come back and score to cut the lead to 28-26 with 10:45 to play. The Bees would get the ball back into the Tiger 15 yard line and Macon would make a defensive stand to protect the lead. However, a turnover inside the 20 yard line and a go ahead score with 3:07 left put Upperman ahead for good. The Tigers would drive back down the field and have the ball inside the Bee 10 yard line, but could not get a score. Final is Upperman 34 Macon 28.
For the game Seth Carlisle was 3 of 11 for 93 yards and 2TDs and 1INT while rushing for 228 yards on 34 carries and 2TDs. Jason Sewell had 18 yards on 7 carries. Tyler Carlisle had 2 catches for 58 yards and 1TD and Brandon Noles had 1 catch for 35 yards and 1TD. Jessie Gregory and Tyler Swindle led all tacklers with 6 tackles each. Tyler Carlisle and Marshall Avera had 5 tackles apiece.
The Macon record falls to 3 and 4. Next up is a road trip to 8AA rival DeKalb County on October 17th. To have any hope for the postseason, this is an important game. Game time is scheduled for 7 pm.
