Macon 8AA Basketball Results
Macon County opened district 8AA play on Friday February 13th.
The district tournament was held at Cookeville High School from the 12th to the 16th.
The Tigerettes opened play on the 13th against Central Magnet. These teams had split during the regular season, one in which the Lady Tigers were ranked in the top 10 in the state for much of the season. Macon seemed to come out slow, in a new starting configuration. Central was making shots inside the paint and out and Macon was not. By halftime the Central had built a 30-13 lead. The Tigerettes simply didn’t shoot, rebound, or score very well. To start the third quarter the Tigerettes commit four consecutive turnovers and fell further behind. Macon trailed 24-43 to begin the 4th period. The Tigerettes simply couldn’t climb out of the hole. Final score Macon 33 Central Magnet 51.
Scoring was: Briley Driver 4, Leah Anderson 8, Lyndsey Belton 14, Kassidy Brooks 1, Kyndall Bullington 4, and Marisa Owens 2. Paige Clark, Reese Shrum, Sarah Carter, Luci Allen, Kinsley Green, and Keeley Claridy all played but did not score. This was the final game for four seniors who played four years of basketball. MCHS Head Coach Jeff Beam also announced that he would be stepping down as head coach from both the high school and the junior high programs.
The boys next faced a DeKalb team they have defeated twice this season. DeKalb came out on fire making 6 three pointers to take a 22-15 lead after one. After falling behind by 10 points Macon fought back to trail at the half 27-33. Macon came out with pressure, forcing turnovers, and tied the game at 35 all. Macon took their first lead 44-43 with a minute to go in the third. That’s how they started the final period.
Scoring was: Seth Carlisle 16, Michael Ashburn 16, Evan Perrigo 9, Trace McPherson 10, Tyler Carlisle 6, and Kendrick Carter 2. Matt Austin and Alex Hill both played but did not score.
The Tigers would next face #2 seed Livingston Academy in the semi-finals. These two teams split their regular season meetings, so with good play it could be anyone’s game. The difference in this first half was 8 of 22 shooting for Macon versus 13 of 22 for the Wildcats. Sometimes shots simply do not fall for you. At the half Macon trailed 19-30. The Tigers would continue to play hard but just could not make up the deficit, cutting the lead to 10 with the score 35-45 at the end of the third. Macon played hard but the final score was Macon Co 48 Livingston 53.
Scoring was: Seth Carlisle 14, Ashburn 8, Perrigo 8, Austin 4, McPherson 2, Tyler Carlisle 2, Clay Carnahan 10. Hill and Carter played but did not score.
The Tigers will now play in the consolation game on Tuesday night at 6 pm versus Smith County. The Tigers will travel in a play-in game at the end of the week in order to continue in regional play, which is scheduled to be held in Sequatchie County.
