Walmart Wallet Robbery Suspect Charged

Things went from bad to worse for 31-year-old Jones, after he robbed a woman of her wallet inside of the local business and fled the scene.

It was first reported in last week’s edition of the Macon County Chronicle, that the Lafayette Police Department was dispatched to Walmart in reference to a robbery. In the affidavit of complaint, Patrolman Joshua McClard states that he responded to the call at Walmart, and suspect Joshua Jones fled the scene in a high speed pursuit with the LPD. According to McClard, he made contact with the robbery victim who told him that Jones was following her around in the store while talking on a cell phone. He preceeded to grab her wallet out of her hand and ran out of the store. A photo line up was presented to the victim and witnesses, all of which positively identified Jones as the suspect.

According to Patrolman Derrick Gann, who also responded to the call, he made contact with Jones as he ran the stop sign while exiting Walmart. “I initiated my emergency equipment in front of Capitol Bank, but Jones refused to stop,” stated Gann. “He ran the stop sign at 52 and Ellington, and then ran the stop sign at Ellington Drive and Church Street. The suspect traveled down Ellington Drive and ran the stop sign at the Scottsville Road intersection.”

Gann says that Jones turned left heading north and he met several vehicles while driving at a high rate of speed. “Jones did cross the center line numerous times while fleeing and after numerous tips saying who the driver was, I was able to obtain a photo of Jones, and did positively identify Jones as the driver. His license was revoked.”

On March 19, Deputy Woodard, of the Macon County Sheriffs Office, transported Joshus Jones for a Lafayette Police Department officer to the Macon County Jail for warrants. According to the affidavit of compliant filed by Woodard when Jones was getting out of the back of his patrol car, he left in the seat a white powder in a bag, which tested positive for methamphetamine.

Joshua Jones has been charged with robbery, driving on a revoked license, evading arrest, failure to stop for signals or stop signs, reckless driving, driving left of center, reckless endangerment, and possession of a Schedule II drug. His bond is set at $15,250. Court dates have been scheduled for April 1 and May 27.
