Bulldogs Fall to Cannon County 34-14
The Red Boiling Springs Bulldogs once again went on the road last Friday night to take on district rival Cannon County.
The Bulldogs came away with a 34-14 loss.
The Bulldogs took the opening kick-off and marched downfield where Quarterback Elijah Byfield scooted around right end and 37 yards later the Bulldogs grabbed a early 7-0 lead with Justin Bergdorff splitting the uprights for the extra point. The Bulldogs hopes for an upset was short lived as Cannon County would score the next 24 points and Cannon County would grab a 24-7 lead at half-time.
The Bulldogs were hurt by turnovers and penalties that gave Cannon County a short field on two touchdowns plus a 46 yard field goal. The Bulldogs would not see the end zone again until late in the fourth quarter when once again Byfield scored on a 1 yard run and Bergdorff’s extra point was good. Cannon County would score late in the fourth quarter for the 34-14 final.
The Bulldogs defense played much better than the score would indicate. They allowed only 263 yards of total offense and only allowed 5 first downs for the entire game. Cannon County ran the ball 38 times for 154 yards but two big pass plays hurt the Bulldogs as both a 46 and a 42 pass plays went for touchdowns. Some individual stats that outstanding are as follows-Dustin Bergdorff had 14 tackles-Billy York had 10 tackles-Jordan Powell had 7 tackles-Dalton Thompson had 9 tackles-Justin Bergdorff had 7 tackles-Anthony Kramer had 5 tackles plus Justin Bergdorff recovered 2 fumbles. Hunter Kirk had 2 tackles plus a fumble recovered. You can’t play much better defense than these kids played.
Due to those turnovers and penalties the Bulldogs were limited to 138 yards of total offense. Eliminate the mistakes and this game would have been very close. York and Powell had 2 catches for a total of 37 yards.
The Bulldogs now return home for 4 straight home games starting with Monterey this Friday night.
