Tiger baseball begins 8-AA tournament

The Macon County High school baseball team heads into the postseason with a #1 seeding on their side of the district tournament bracket.

 

On Apr 29th the Tigers would travel to Cannon County for a district game. Trent Cook was on the mound and threw five innings allowing one hit, no earned runs, and struck-out four. Logan Thompson threw two innings of relief and gave-up no hits or runs. The two Isaacs were hot at the plate. Meador went 2 for 4 with three RBIs while Belton went 2 for 4 with two RBIs. Cameron Mercer scored two runs for the Tigers. The Tigers won by a final score of 8-1.

On Apr 30th the Tigers made-up a district contest against DeKalb County. Belton threw four and two thirds innings and allowed nine hits, six earned runs, and struck-out six. Belton, Connor Trent, Mercer, Oakley Stinson, Kade Allen, Meador, and Logan Thompson all had hits in the game. Leading 5-2 after three frames, Macon gave up runs in three of the last four innings to lose 5-7.

In 8-AA baseball, they divide the eight team district into two north-south divisions. At the end of the regular season each division is ranked and two from each play two from the other in the first rounds of district play. Macon finished #1 in the “north” side of the bracket of the division.

So on May 3rd the Tigers would face Cannon County, who they just beaten earlier in the week.

Now did you ever have one of those days where just nothing went right? Well that was what happened to the Tigers. Everything they hit went right to someone and they lost to Cannon County by a score of 3-0. Thompson went the distance throwing seven innings and allowing six hits and three earned runs with nine strike-outs. Macon managed just four hits by Hayden Blankenship, Trent, and Meador and no Tiger runner advanced past second base.

This would drop the Tigers into the Losers bracket and due to the weather the would play Livingston on Monday May 6th at home at 5 pm.
