Tigers roll 70 points on Glencliff
The Macon County Tigers set a program record at Homecoming against Glencliff High School.
The Tigers beat the Colts by a score of 70 to 8.
Macon scored on their first possession on Ethan Jenkins 19 yard run and Ryan Underwood extra point. Following a Colt turnover the Tigers scored on Isaac Belton’s two yard run and Underwood’s PAT. Tiger Dawson Long then had a pick-six on the next possession and Underwood made it 21-0. Following another turnover, Belton scored again on a 30 yard run and Underwood made it 28-0. On the next Tiger possession Jenkins scored on a 34 yard run and Underwood made it 35-0 at the end of the first period.
On the next Glencliff possession, Tiger Curtis Oliver returned a punt 40 yards for a score. Back-up kicker Brady Flores made the PAT to make it 42-0. On the next Tiger possession Hunter Herron scored on a 28 yard run and Flores made it 49-0. On the next possession Tiger Dylan Chupp scored on a five yard run and Flores made it 56-0 at the break.
In high school football there is a mercy rule that has a running clock in the second half when there is a 35 point lead. So the last two quarters went by pretty fast. Glencliff scored their touchdown late in the third quarter. However Tiger Landon Colter scored twice on runs of three and 28 yards late in the final period. Underwood came back in to kick both extra points and Macon won by a final score of 70-8.
This is the largest point total in program history besting the 68-0 win the Tigers had in 1990 over Red Boiling Springs. It is also the most points the Tigers have scored in the opening quarter in the past two years.
For the game Jon Mark Gammons was 1 for 2 for 27 yards passing and had one rush for eight yards. Back-up Braydee Brooks was 0 for 3 passing.
The Tigers were led by Isaac Belton who had 60 yards on four carries and two TDs. Colter had five carries for 33 yards and two TDs while Ethan Jenkins had two carries for 53 yards and two TDs. Others were: Nate Green six carries for 21 yards, Hunter Herron 3 carries for 58 yards and a TD, Cameron Houston 3 carries for 40 yards, and Dylan Chupp two carries for 13 yards and a TD. Houston had the only reception of the game for 27 yards.
Herron led all tacklers with six stops. He was followed by Rodney Tuck with four, and three tackles each by Wesley Carver, Austin Robinson, Mason Swindle, and Levin Elmore. Macon also had 312 yards of total offense compared to the Colt’s 76 and the Tigers recorded 10 tackles for a loss in this game, which is a lot.
Next week will begin region play as the Tigers will travel to Crossville to take on the Cumberland County Jets on September 20th. Game time is scheduled for 7 pm.
