Michael Owens Resigns at RBS

On Monday Jun 15th 2020, Michael Owens submitted his resignation as the head coach of the Red Boiling Springs Basketball team.

Owens coached the boy’s team at RBS for 20 years and won 291 wins in that time. His teams appeared in the sub-state twice while winning two district championships. He had six 20 win seasons and was named District 7A Coach of the Year one time.

Coach Owens also coached the Junior High teams for seven years from 2000 to 2007. In that time he coached a Class AA TNT State Championship team and two conference champions. His 2000-2001 team went undefeated at 25-0.

Coach Owens is also a member of the Red Boiling Springs Basketball Hall-of-Fame.

“I am especially thankful for being able to coach so many talented young men and women over my 26 years of coaching. It has been so rewarding to see players mature over a four to six year career, and not just on the court,” Coach Owens commented in his resignation letter. “To play a small part in their growth is what I will always cherish the most.”

Coach Owens still remains the Principal at the Red Boiling Springs Elementary School.

In dealing with Coach Owens for over 20 years, the job he has done at RBS has been excellent. I can say without a shadow of a doubt that the community at Red Boiling Springs can be thankful for his ability to coach and direct our young people.

He has always given 100% every game and never refused an interview after a game. He has been professional in every way and I will miss him.

Good Luck Michael. Thank You.
