Tigerettes host 7-3A Tournament
The Macon County High School Tigerette softball team hosted the District 7-3A tournament in Lafayette this past week. It was the first time that program had hosted a district tournament.
As the #1 seed Macon drew a first round bye. Their first game was against White County on Tuesday May 9th. In a late night game the Tigerettes had only six hits and scored early to hang on for a 3-1 victory.
Macy Meador, Ellie Coley, Cadence Carter, Kenley Roark, Ryleigh Coley, and Kayla Frye had hits while Frye, Meador, and Katie Shockley scored the runs. Ellie Coley collected nine strikeouts in the circle.
Next up was the #1 vs. #2 matchup in a game against the Lady Bees of Upperman. Tied 1-1 Upperman scored two runs in the top of the 6th to make the difference in the 3-2 victory. The Tigerettes stranded seven different runners on the base path during the contest.
Meador and Ryleigh Coley had multiple hits and Meador scored the only two runs. Ellie Coley had another strong outing allowing five hits and two earned runs.
Now in the loser’s bracket in the double elimination tournament, it became a matter of dodging the weather. Rain most of the last half of the week forced the final games to be played on Mother’s Day.
Macon would face White County again on Sunday May 14th. In another tight contest Ryleigh Coley hits a fielder’s choice, scoring big sister Ellie Coley, to make the difference in the 3-2 Macon win.
Ellie Coley, Meador, and Carter had multiple hits. Ellie Coley threw all seven innings allowing five hits with six strikeouts. With the win the Tigerettes secured a chance to move on into the regional tournament.
The championship game would be played on Sunday as well to determine who would be the winner of the tournament, with Macon needing back-to-back wins over Upperman. The Lady Bees lead early but Macon came back and led 2-1 heading into the fifth inning. Timely hitting was the difference late as Upperman plated four runs to win 5-2.
With the #2 seed the Tigerettes will travel to Lincoln County for a regional contest on May 15th. That will be a win-or-go-home game.
