Man Arrested in Macon County Awaits Extradition by U.S. Marshals

A man recently arrested in Macon County, is being held while he awaits extradition by U.S. Marshals for federal charges including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and violation of parole. 

 

According to the affidavit of complaint, Deputy Dylan Gann, Sergeant Kyle Petty and Deputy Aaron Shipley arrived at Coley’s Market on October 14, 2020 to investigate reports of a suspicious man that needed to be removed from the property.

While on the scene officers spoke with the male subject, who appeared to be under the influence of narcotics.

The man, identified as 40-year-old Steve Mathew Brown, of Tompkinsville, Kentucky, also gave officers false information. 

A drug K-9 was deployed around Brown’s vehicle and indicated that narcotics were present inside. 

Brown allegedly became combative with officers and was detained. 

His information was ran through the NCIC system and it was established that Brown was wanted on federal charges in Kentucky and Virginia including aggravated assault with a weapon and violation of parole.

While no drugs were found inside Brown’s vehicle, law enforcement did seize a handgun from the passenger seat area with some of the serial numbers filed off. 

Mr. Brown was brought to the Macon County Sheriffs Office and the U.S. Marshals Office was contacted, at which time it was verified that he was a fugitive from justice.

A hold was put on Brown until U.S. Marshals are able to arrive and take him into custody. 

For the incident in Macon County, Brown was charged with evading arrest, resisting arrest, aggravated assault, criminal impersonation, public intoxication, driving under the influence, violation of implied consent law, unlawful possession of a weapon, alteration of serial number and possession of a firearm during a violent felony. His Macon County Court date is set for December 9, 2020. 

Macon County Sheriff Mark Gammons would like to commend all of the officers involved in this case for getting a wanted fugitive off the streets in Macon County.
