Multiple Drug Charges Following Traffic Stop

A Lafayette man is behind bars on multiple drug charges following a routine traffic stop.
According to Macon County Sheriff Mark Gammons, Deputy Logan Swindle was on patrol Sunday, October 25, when he observed a silver Nissan Maxima traveling west on Highway 52 with no visible tag.
After stopping the vehicle, the driver was identified as 44-year-old Anthony Dawes of Lafayette. Dawes had a revoked license and couldn’t provide proof of insurance or registration.
During the traffic stop, Deputy Swindle located a glass pipe in the driver’s side door, and Dawes allegedly admitted to smoking meth.
After receiving permission to search the vehicle, law enforcement officers located a purple bag containing two syringes, digital scales, approximately 1.6 grams of a green, leafy substance that appeared to marijuana, and approximately 11.6 grams of a white, crystalized substance that appeared to me methamphetamine. The substance did field test positive for meth.
Mr. Dawes was arrested and charged with driving on a revoked license, simple possession, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of methamphetamine, driving an unregistered vehicle and financial responsibility violation.
His bond is set at $8,700, and he is scheduled to appear in general sessions court on December 16, 2020.
