Man Charged with Assaulting Neighbor

By Jessie Williams

A Macon County man was arrested last week following a disturbance with neighbors.

According to Chief Deputy Bryon Satterfield of the Macon County Sheriff’s Department, officers were dispatched to a residence on Napier Lane Saturday evening, November 28, in response to the disturbance.

The Lafayette Fire Department was already on the scene when officers arrived in response to a grass fire in the same area. Members of the fire department reported they were verbally confronted by a man, identified as 35-year-old Justin Summar, who then ran into a wooded area.

A short time later, Summar allegedly returned to the scene and confronted his neighbors – spitting on one of them and threatening their lives and the lives of their animals.

Mr. Summar is said to have then fled to his home, where officers attempted to make contact with him.

According to the officer’s report, Summar would not respond to deputies or comply with their requests.

Summar’s wife and child were also inside the home and officers could hear him yelling and causing a disturbance inside the home.

Entry was made into the residence for the safety of the woman and child and Mr. Summar was detained.

He was charged with aggravated assault (2 counts), resisting arrest, vandalism, obedience to law enforcement officer, fire: reckless burning, disorderly conduct and criminal trespassing. His bond was set at $5,500, and he is scheduled to appear in general sessions court on January 27, 2021.
