Woman Killed in Sunday Wreck

On Sunday morning, December 6, the Tennessee Highway Patrol was dispatched to the intersection of Scottsville Road and Cold Springs Road, to investigate a two-vehicle wreck that killed a Kentucky woman.

 

According to Trooper Tracy Donoho, “Thirty-two-year-old Brandy Cardwell, of Lafayette, was driving north on the Scottsville Road in a 1997 Nissan Maxima when she attempted to make a left turn at the Cold Springs Road intersection. She pulled into the path of a southbound 2011 Dodge Charger, driven by 18-year-old Alejandro Segura, of Scottsville, Kentucky, and the vehicles made contact almost head on.”

Trooper Donoho stated that Brandy Cardwell, who was wearing a seatbelt, was airlifted to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, and two small children in her car were transported by ground for medical treatment. Alejandro Seguar was carried by private vehicle for treatment at Macon Community Hospital and his passenger, 44-year-old Hilda Maldonado, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene by the coroner. She was his mother.

When contacted by telephone on Monday afternoon, a Skyline spokesperson stated that Brandy Cardwell was listed in fair condition.

Those responding to the scene were the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Macon County EMS, Macon County Sheriff’s Department, Lafayette Fire Department, and the Macon County Rescue Squad.
