Bulldogs no match for Gordonsville

The Red Boiling Springs High School football team made their last road trip this past Friday night to take on the Gordonsville Tigers. Once again the Bulldogs gave a great effort but Gordonsville dealt the Bulldogs their sixth loss of the season by a final score of 49-14.

The Bulldogs once again had to play without four starters and the Tigers knew where to attack the Bulldogs and the outcome was decided early in the second quarter as Gordonsville jumped out to a 28-0 lead and the Bulldogs could not catch up.

The Bulldogs scored their first touchdown in the second quarter on a 34 yard pass from quarterback Aubry Link to wideout Chris Hackney and Link kicked the extra point and the Bulldogs were on the scoreboard trailing 28-7.The Tigers came right back and a 44 yard pass completion accounted for the last touchdown of the first half and the score was 42-7 at halftime.

The Bulldogs mounted a drive on their own 43 yard line in the closing minutes of the third quarter and with 7:33 left in the fourth quarter the Bulldogs got within striking distance at 42-14. The Tigers bounced right back scoring their final touchdown for the final score of 49-14. The Bulldogs played hard the entire game but the Tigers defense was just too strong. The Bulldogs will return home this Friday night to play Sunbright to finish their regular season.

Bulldog head coach Sean Link has done a great job with these kids and they will give Sunbright all they can handle. Everyone needs to remember about the halftime ceremonies, it will be senior night.

Some stats from the game. Bulldog quarterback Aubry Link passed for 147 yards and two touchdown plus Link rushed for 59 yards on just 9 carries. Joe Birdwell rushed for 67 yards on just seven carries. The Bulldogs turned the ball over three times as did Gordonsville.

Let’s get ready for Sunbright. We expect a large crowd. See you there.
