Wanted Man Caught With Drugs, $100,000 Bond

By Jessie Williams

A wanted 28-year-old Bethpage man was arrested on drug charges by Macon County law enforcement last week and given a bond of $100,000.

According to the affidavit of complaint filed by Sergeant Clinton Friar, he was on patrol during the early morning hours of April 1, 2024, when he observed a vehicle pulling into a Spring Creek Road residence that he believed could contain Dustin W. Stewart, who had an active warrant out for his arrest.

The officer exited his patrol car and approached the Nissan Altima, at which time he recognized Stewart sitting in the passenger seat.

Mr. Stewart exited the vehicle upon request, and Sergeant Friar stated that he immediately noticed the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

Mr. Stewart was detained at that time for his active warrant, and openly admitted to law enforcement there was marijuana in the vehicle and everything in the vehicle belonged to him.

Upon further investigation, a camouflage bag was found on the floor board of the passenger side where Stewart had been sitting. Inside, officer Friar observed a crystalized substance weighing approximately 5.2 ounces that he believed to be methamphetamine, along with a green, leafy substance weighing approximately 1.34 ounces that appeared to be marijuana.

Also located in the bag were multiple, empty baggies, two digital scales and two marijuana grinders.

Stewart was charged with violation of probation, possession of methamphetamine for resale, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana for resale.

His bond was set at $100,000, and he is scheduled to appear in general sessions court on May 1, 2024.
