Duo Attempts to Break-In Into RBS City Hall, Police Car
By Jessie Williams
Two men were arrested last week after vandalizing Red Boiling Springs City property while attempting to break into city hall.
According to the affidavit of complaints filed by Interim RBS Police Chief Jeffery Maynard, he was contacted by dispatch regarding two men attempting to break into RBS City Hall on July 20, 2024.
Upon Chief Maynard’s arrival, however, the officer was not able to locate anyone.
A search of the property revealed damage to the porch railing, blood on the door handle of a parked police car and shoe marks on the city hall door, indicating someone attempted to kick it open.
Dispatch had received a 911 call from the person responsible for the damage. The caller, identified as 31-year-old Jason Carter, was highly intoxicated and confessed to attempting to break into city hall and the police car along with the damage to the railing. He further stated that he and his friend wanted to kill the next person he could locate because they were unable to assassinate President Joe Biden.
Dispatch stayed in contact with Mr. Carter throughout the night as officers attempted to locate him.
He was later found passed out in the wood line on McClure St. at Factory St., bleeding from several different places on his body.
Found with Carter was 29-year-old Marcus King, who admitted to being with Carter at city hall during the incident but stated he had no role in the vandalism or attempted break-in.
Camera footage revealed King was also punching and kicking the door and also gained entry into the police car. The video showed Marcus grabbing the railing and destroying it.
Both men were detained and taken to the Macon County Jail for booking.
They were each charged with vandalism, public intoxication and two counts of burglary.
Their bonds were set at $15,500 and they are scheduled to appear in general sessions court on September 4, 2024.
