Time Change for Sunday Beer Sales in RBS

The Red Boiling Springs City Council met on December 12, 2024 and unanimously voted to change the time for Sunday beer sales, previously being sold from 1 – 6 p.m., to now be allowed to sell from noon until midnight.

Approving to amend Ordinance 0-12-2024-1, Title 8-213 on the first reading came after Red Boiling Springs City Attorney Branden Bellar had advised the council to either clean up the language of the ordinance or continue to enforce the 1 – 6 p.m. Sunday beer sales.

RBS City To Block Cemetery Access During School Events

“Whitley Cemetery,” Red Boiling Springs Mayor Kenneth Hollis began, “We’ve had some more trouble up at the cemetery and people during school events up there… Parking on graves, pulling out in the middle of it.”

“We told them not to be parking on it,” Vice Mayor Linda Carver shared.

“Well, now there are chains up,” Hollis continued, “And what I want to do, and I’ve done… Well, I’ve done had the boys pull up the signs that says no parking along the side of the road, and if people want to park along the side of the road, then they can as long as they leave a lane open for people to get down through there is all that matters… And if they are out in the road and some can’t get by, then we will have them towed… What I want to get from the council is permission that during every big school event that we block the cemetery off and there will not be access to that during that time… If they want to block off the road, then they can because there are four ways into that school and why not just block that road off there to prevent parking down in the cemetery because they were parked about 6 foot on my mother’s grave and I don’t appreciate that and I know nobody else would appreciate that either and some pull up halfway on top of graves and stuff… So we have a problem with people disrespecting the cemetery.”

“I agree with you,” Vice Mayor Linda Carver said, and the motion passed unanimously.

City Violations Blamed on Babynov

“We have got some violations on our sewer system,” Mayor Kenneth Hollis told the City Council during the December 12th meeting, “And we have been in violation for a long time and it goes back to Babynov because they are sending us raw sewage and we are not being able to treat it properly,” he added, “So we will get with Branden (Bellar, City Attorney) to address it.”

Street Lights Out on East Main

“Street lights,” City of Red Boiling Springs Vice Mayor Linda Carver said after Mayor Hollis asked if anyone had anything to discuss before the meeting adjourned… “What’s happened to our street lights?”

“We just need to give them a call and tell them they are out,” Hollis replied.

“Are they out because of the Christmas lights that were hung up,” Red Boiling Springs Police Chief Jeffrey Maynard asked.

“It definitely has something to do with Tri-County,” Chad Owens commented.

In other business, the Red Boiling Springs Shop-with-a-Fireman event will be held on Thursday, December 19, at Wal-Mart with 30 children participating. The City Council Christmas breakfast will be held on December 18, 2024.
