Intoxicated Man Shoots at ‘Home Intruders’
By Jessie Williams
A 38-year-old Lafayette man was arrested last week after allegedly shooting at non-existent home intruders while under the influence of drugs.
According to the affidavit of complaint filed by Macon County Sergeant Meyer, Leonardo Justo called the Macon County Sheriff’s Office on July 17, 2025 to report a home intrusion at his residence on McNabb Lane.
Upon his arrival, officers from the Lafayette Police Department had already made contact with Justo and secured a firearm he had on his person.
Mr. Justo told officers there were people under his house and behind the couch. He went on to explain that he had fired a gun four times, heard someone say they had been shot, and then called the police.
A search of the residence was conducted, at which time officers located a bag containing a green, leafy substance that appeared to be marijuana in a bedroom and a white, crystalized substance in the immediate area.
Also discovered during the search were four spent .22 LR shell casings in Justo’s bedroom. Two bullet holes went through the wall, to the outside of the residence in a place that they could have traveled into the residence next door.
The language line was used to communicate with Justo about the incident, and he stated that he kept hearing people in the house, and that’s when he fired his weapon.
When asked if he had been using any intoxicating substances, he replied he had used “crystal.”
According to officer Meyer, Justo acted nervous and excited and his eyes appeared bloodshot and glassy.
He was arrested and transported to the Macon County Jail on charges of Reckless Endangerment, Possession of a Weapon While Under the Influence and Simple Possession of a Schedule VI drug.
His bond was set at $50,000, and he is scheduled to appear in general sessions court on August 13, 2025.
