Former Lafayette Police Captain Passes Away
Retired United States Army Command Sergeant Major and Lafayette Police Captain Henry Behr passed away on Thursday in Overton County Tennessee. Sgt. Major Behr was a native of Dallas TX and moved to Celina TN after retiring from a decorated career serving nearly 27 years in the U.S. Army in several major conflicts. Shortly after retirement, Henry decided to continue his passion to serve and joined the Celina Police Department in 1997 quickly rising to the ranks of Captain. Henry then served with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy, Sergeant, and Lieutenant. Henry joined the Lafayette Police Department as a patrol officer as most of Macon County would remember him as the tall older gentleman in the rearview mirror after receiving a speeding ticket or a stern scolding for a traffic violation (insert laugh here).
Before retirement in 2019, Henry rose through the ranks in the Lafayette Police Dept. as a Patrol Officer, Corporal, Interim Chief of Police, and finally settling as Captain of the department prior to retirement. Nearly a year later Henry suffered a massive stroke that resulted in him being paralyzed on one side that deprived him of the vibrant life he had once known with his grandchildren and his wife Amy. Henry was a true patriot, a husband, a father, a grandfather, and all-around friend to our communities, our counties, and our Country.
Funeral services for CSM Henry Behr were conducted Monday, March 2, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. from the chapel of Anderson & Son Funeral Home in Lafayette with Brother Eric Copass officiating. Interment followed in the Anderson & Son Memorial Park with full military honors by the United States Army. CSM Behr received a funeral escort by his brothers and sisters in law enforcement.
