Tigers record three wins
The Macon County High School baseball team was able to move their record to 21-10-1 this past week. They won three of their four games.
On Monday Apr 20 the Tigers travelled to Central Magnet for the first of three District 8AA games in a row. After jumping out to a 3-0 lead then falling behind 3-4 in the sixth inning, the Tigers bats rallied in the top of the eighth to score four runs and win this contest 7-4.
Gunner Carlisle started the game on the mound and threw five innings, allowing three hits and recording seven strikeouts. Keenan White finished the game and got the win as he threw two innings and allowed no runs or hits. Jake Meador, Gage Jones (two RBIs), Carson Brawner, and Ty Bilbrey collected hits while the team amassed a season high seven walks.
The next day on Apr 21 the Tigers traveled to the #1 seeded Watertown. Again, Macon jumped out to an early lead 1-0 only to see the game go into the bottom of the seventh tied at 1-1. Watertown was able to hit a solo walk-off home run to win the game 2-1.
Matthew Wheeley pitched a good game. He threw six plus innings and scattered five hits with one earned run and four strikeouts. Wheeley, Dean, and Emmerson McClard had the three hits in the game.
On Thursday Apr 23 the Tigers hosted DeKalb County for their final district game. Macon led 5-2 heading into the final frame. DeKalb would come back and tie the game at 5-5 heading into the final half inning. In a little bit of deja vu Bilbrey would slam a three-run walk-off home run to end the game with Macon winning 8-5.
Eli Carver threw six and one-third innings, allowing five hits and two earned runs with ten strikeouts. White came on in relief and threw two-thirds of an inning and allowed two hits and one earned run. Meador was 2 for 3 scoring two runs and McClard was 1 for 3 with two RBIs. Bilbrey, Dean, Carson Brawner, and Roman Brawner had the other hits in the game.
Macon will head into the post-season as the #2 seed in a district with all four teams nicknamed as Tigers. The tournament is tentatively scheduled to start late in the week at Watertown.
