One of eight children of the late Robert and Nallie Russell Chambers, he was born Theodore Garlon Chambers in the Graveltown Community on January 27, 1916.

Three brothers preceded him in death, Maud, Carthel and Richard Chambers, as did four sisters, Bertha Craighead, Estelle Turner, Effie Lyles and Olene Brewington.

On Oct. 31, 1936 he was married to Defeated Creek native Velma Faye Lankford. She preceded him in death on February 10, 1996 after almost sixty years of marriage.

Mr. Chambers was a retired farmer and until being displaced by the impoundment of the Cordell Hull Lake in the late 1960’s and purchasing his farm on Kirbytown Road in Macon County, he and his wife owned and operated their farm in the West Point Community where the Corps of Engineers Defeated Creek Campground is now located.

Mr. Chambers was a member and longtime Deacon of the Friendship Primitive Baptist Church at Defeated Creek.

Surviving are his caregivers, Charlie and Pam Givens of Portland and many Nieces and Nephews.
