John Virgil Willis, 76, died June 20, 2010. Born in Hamilton, Ohio, Mr. Willis was a former resident of Macon County, TN, before moving to Athens, GA in 1983. He was a son of the late John Henry and Esther Rush Willis and widower of Carla Sue Willis. Mr. Willis was a veteran of the United States Army, where he served during the Korean Conflict. He was employed for two years with the U.S. Space Program in Grand Turk, Bahamas. Mr. Willis spent most of his career in different manufacturing industries before working as an industrial engineer for Superior Pants Company in Athens from 1983 until 2002. Mr. Willis was a member of New Covenant Worship Center in Athens for the last twenty years.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at 11:00 AM at New Covenant Worship Center with Rev. Howard Conine officiating.

Survivors include three children, Britt (Carol) Willis of Niceville, FL, David (Misty) Willis of Statham, GA and April Doke of Colbert, GA; eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 6:00 until 9:00 PM and at the church from 10:00 AM until service time.
